School in the Square Intergenerational Participatory Research Collective is a longitudinal inquiry that began in 2019 tracking 96 then-eighth graders, mostly of Dominican descent, navigating NYC’s public schools. Twelve Latinx, then eighth graders — now college students — were trained to conduct oral histories with their peers. Since March 2020 the youth researchers shifted their interviews to focus on immigration and education during times of protest and pandemic. This work has resulted in numerous publications, co-authored with the youth researchers, which draw from over 150 interviews collected by these young scholars.
